Construction: Planning Titles, Part 2

Before deciding our opening titles for our horror film opening we agreed to try several different types of fonts, sizes and placements. we did this by making one title and testing numerous adjustments to see what would look best for our opening.

The first thing we did is typed in Marvin Addae into the title editor and modified it to see what would look good, we looked for what font would be suitable first.

We ignored the first font as it was too dull and basic and chose to use the default size font as it was a good size. The first font we looked at was Monotype Corsiva but we thought it looked to fancy and elegant.

The next font we looked at was Minion Pro but we thought it was too plain to be in our opening.

The next font we looked at is Myriad Pro but the characters were too horizontally congested.

The next font we looked at is Noteworthy but it was too childish and looked hand drawn.

The next font we looked at is Rosewood Std but we thought it looked like a font that we be featured in a carnival.

The next font we looked at is Savoy LET but again it was too fancy.

The next font we looked at is Bangla MN. This is the only font we finally decided on as it looked plain but not too basic, and could easily be used in our horror opening and work well.

The next thing we decided to do it change the font colors and see if the opening titles would look better in a different color. We started by changing it to red to see if was good, we chose that red looked to cliche and not to use it.

Next we chose it to be yellow and see if that was any better but it was not and didn't really fit our theme. After a few colors we realised that a white font would be the best and safest option.

After choosing our font and font color we moved on to choosing if your names of actors should all be capitalised or all lower case. We first looked at all lower case and came to a conclusion that since the characters play a big part in the horror opening it would make more sense and look better if they were all capitals.

After seeing what they looked like in all capitals we agreed upon using capitals for all the main parts of the opening titles and it looked better.

After this we chose where the positioning of the Name would be, we first tried in the top left and saw what is looked like. We decided that it looked okay but wanted to see it in the other corner.

After moving it to the bottom right corner we thought that if we were going to put it in any corner it would be the right, but only if we were going to overlay the text on top of the footage.

Since this was discussed with our group that the titles should not be overlaid due to the bright footage may make the titles hard to read, we chose to use black screens for the opening tiles to be shown. Considering we are not overlaying the opening titles should be in the middle and their role sitting on the top right of the name. we made the role text font equal yet the size 50.

Construction: Evidence of Reflection (Last Recording)

During our last recording we made changes to help improve our footage to get the best grade as possible. This involved preventing any errors occurring along the way as we had in the past recordings. This resulted in us delegating clear instructions to each person in our team.

Like the last recording we decided to gather 3 people to play the roles in our horror opening. This time we got two boys and one girl and we excluded Sarah, one of the boys who played our role in the opening was our own member of the group, this was advantageous to us as Sam already knows the script fully and knew what to do to make our shots correct.

We learnt how to level the camera via a tripod properly. This reduced the shaking of the camera work during recording the scenes. This therefore helped time keeping as we didn't keep messing the shots up, there we didn't have to take the shots more than 3 times. We learned how to focus the camera correctly, therefore all the shots looked more professional.

Although this was our last recording meaning any other mistakes will be irrelevant, if we had the chance to improve our construction of our horror opening we would do as the following.

  • We didn't take evidence of filming in corridor.
  • We would of make text of the "DO NOT ENTER!" sign more professional.
  • We would of had less member in the group at the time of recording to avoid distraction of actors.
  • We would have more dialogue to make it more realistic and lively.
  • We would of picked out what each actor was wearing specifically rather than each them wearing what they came into school.
  • We would have put more props around our classroom setting to make it more believable they was in a school environment.
  • We didn't get enough retakes of Kai screaming so we didn't get to choose the best one.
  • We would have used more methods to make the classroom seem more haunted. Such as the AC turning on by itself or the door opening automatically.

Therefore we feel that our recoding was the best we could produce with the deadlines we have been given because our footage is of a good quality and everything flows fluently and fits perfectly in our editing process.
